Jan 22, 2018· With the 1800 rpm motor if you had a 3" to " drive wheel to swap out you''d have a nice slower speed for working with finish bevels and finer grit belts. 120 grit belt will work just fine with 2350 SFPM belt speed, but wouldn''t go much finer grit at that speed.

Feb 06, 2009· I want to build a 2" by 72" belt grinder. I want a maximum speed of 5000 fpm. I want a VFD. It looks like I can achieve this with either a 1725 RPM motor, sped way up for 5000 fpm, or a 3450 RPM motor, which would run at around 5000 fpm at 60 Hz .
Dec 31, 2017· I am build a 2x72 belt grinder using a DC treadmill motor. The hp motor I have is rated at 90V on the tag. No RPM is given. I am driving it with an 120V SCR speed control fed through a bridge rectifier. I get a maximum of 108V at present. This gives me a motor speed of 6700 rpm. If i drop back to 90V, I get about 5600 rpm.

The part I looked up was a 5 hp which is a several times more power than required for a 2" x 72" belt grinder. A little hard on the power bill but will work. A preferred motor would be Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) as steel dust from grinding will make its way into the motor and cause premature failure.
